Barbershops and hair salons have been closed since the start of the Movement Control Order (MCO) but you can get your long overdue haircut really soon!
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Sabri Yaakob announced that barbers and hair salon operators can resume operations starting 10th June, but with strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
"We will allow basic haircuts, hair washing, trimming and shaving of beards and moustaches, hair treatment, manicures, pedicures, facial washing and treatment," he said.
Mask, face shield and gloves must be worn at all times and barbers and hairdressers must change their gloves before attending to the next customer, along with disposable aprons.
And with these SOPs in place to keep the safety of the customers, the operation cost will increase too.
Customers are expected to see an increase in price between RM3 to RM10 for the shops to cover their cost.
"The barbershop and salon associations have already discussed (price increases) among shop owners considering SOP,” said the president of the Bumiputera Barbers Association (MBBA), T.N Winda Mohd Tahir.
"So I expect that we will have to raise the price in light of the costs we have to bear, with an estimated cost increase between RM3 and RM10.”
He added that the estimated price will be from RM10 to RM15 for shops in the outer cities and RM20 to RM25 for shops located in the cities.
"The most important thing is the SOP for the safety of our customers and everyone.”
