The weather isn’t the only thing that’s heating up lately—the dancefloor is too.
Local street dancers are making their moves on Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold, hoping to make a name for themselves.
It’s only the biggest street dance competition in the country
In case you’ve not heard of the show, Battleground Malaysia is a reality dance series by Astro that sets out to crown the best street dancer in Malaysia.
This year, the reality show is partnering with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to give gifted young Malaysians a platform to shine. With breaking (also known as breakdancing) being included at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Ministry believes Battleground Malaysia is the perfect place to uncover great dancers—and possibly, the first gold-medal Olympian of our country!
Besides that, the show’s mix of sports, dance and entertainment makes it a fun watch for Malaysians. It unites us as we cheer on the dancers that come from different states and cultural backgrounds—just like we do during a badminton match!
What’s going to happen on Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold?
Following their audition at AEON Mall Shah Alam in July, shortlisted participants from different backgrounds will now prove their worth on the real battleground—and you’ll get to catch all the action starting 29 Sept, every Friday at 10pm.
Leading the dance battles are four captains: 2-time SEA Games Breaking gold medalist, Lego Sam; Malaysian B-Boy SEA Games contender, Khenobu; Danny Lee from the music group 3P; and Battleground 2010 & 2011 champion, Seven.

Each will recruit the contestants into crews of 10 and shape their dancers into a cohesive unit through challenges that test their individual skills.
The show will be hosted in 3 languages by popular content creator and dancer, Dennis Yin; actress, Sherry Al-Hadad; and musician, Saint TFC. Meanwhile, actor Zizan Razak will play judge.

The best dance crew will take home A. LOT. OF. MONEY.
During the grand finale on 3 Nov, the teams will compete in front of international experts of dance, and the one dance crew left standing will get to take home a grand prize of RM100,000, while the 1st runner-up will pocket RM30,000.
On top of that, individuals in the winning team will be pitted against each other for the Best Individual Dancer category and win an extra RM25,000!
