Billie Eilish is once again proving why she and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, make such a powerhouse team.
The 22-year-old singer shared an Instagram Reel offering fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the early stages of creating the song Birds of a Feather. The clip features her and Finneas, 27, collaborating on the track's lyrics and melody. Finneas, who co-writes and produces much of Eilish's music, is seen discussing how the song should be sung while they brainstorm lyrics for the chorus.
“February 16th 2023 lil video of the beginnings of birds of a feather,” Eilish captioned the post.
The clip reveals the duo working through lines that would later become the song's chorus:
"Birds of a feather, we should stick together, I know ('Til the day that I die) / I said I'd never think I wasn't better alone ('Til the light leaves my eyes) / Can't change the weather, might not be forever ('Til the day that I die) / But if it's forever, it's even better."
“I love that idea,” Eilish says during the video as they develop the lyrics and refine the song’s structure.
The track is featured on Eilish’s latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, which debuted in May 2024. The album has been a critical and commercial success, cementing Eilish’s status as one of the most influential artists of her generation.
The album has garnered seven nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
Eilish is currently on a world tour supporting the album. Her North American leg wraps up with a performance in Inglewood, California, on December 21. The tour will then resume in February 2025 with dates across Australia.
