Breakdancing has been around for ages and breakdancers are not only recognised in dancing events, but their about to be recognised in the Olympics too!
The Olympics has officially added breakdancing to the medal events program for the upcoming 2024 Paris Games!
The decision came after the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) attempt to pursue urban events to attract a younger audience.
Breakdancing at the Olympics will called "breaking" and the sport has been approved after it was proposed by the Paris organisers two years ago at the 2018 Youth Olympics.
After positive trials, the IOC executive board confirmed that breaking will join the 2024 sports lineup.
Three other sports have also been added to the 2024 Paris Games besides breakdancing including skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.
The three sports are set to make their debut at the Tokyo Games that will open on 23 July 2021 after being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Breakdancers selected for the Olympics will get to participate at the prestige downtown venue of Place de le Concorde along with sport climbing and 3-on-3 basketball, while surfing is to be held at the beaches of Tahiti, more than 15,000 kilometers from France!
Many breakdancers are rejoicing at the news and love that it is now recognised at the international Olympics level!
