Marathons are great and they encourage people to stay healthy and competitive, but if there’s one thing that may be a disadvantage, is the traffic jam it causes due to road closures.
One couple was unfortunate enough to have their wedding day aligned with the same day and area as the marathon held in Singapore.
Facebook user Lee Jianming posted a post expressing how the jam from the marathon caused the guests to be unable to arrive on time and how his wife broke down when she saw that no one showed up at the wedding that she spent an entire year planning.
“She wasn't able to pull off everything she planned for over the last 12 months, just 1 hour before the wedding and there's nothing I can do apart from consoling her.”
He also revealed that even the vendors couldn’t make it in time to set up and that many of the guests - including the groom’s parents, were stuck in the jam for three hours.
Only 10%-20% of the guests managed to reach on time and the wedding that was supposed to start at 7pm only started at 9pm.
“Put yourselves in the shoes of the bride, groom, and families involved. The sense of helplessness, in an event that took months to plan and readying for, only to be undone by something totally out of your control.”
The public were unhappy with the massive jam caused by the event, with one user saying that that’s why they should be held early in the morning to avoid causing trouble for others.
