Many of us Malaysians love eating our tasty rice with our hands, so when someone comes along and tell us rice should not be eaten by hands, it’s only natural to feel upset over it.
A formal British Royal Family butler was recently slammed on the internet after he tweeted saying “always use a knife and fork or chopsticks to eat rice! We do not use our hands or fingers!!!”
The internet immediately retaliated after his “advice” was posted and many called his insensitive comment out.
Many people from the Asian communities found his tweet offensive and many sarcastically said they feel sad that he can’t feel the satisfaction of eating with his hands.
He also defended himself in a reply to one tweet stating that he’s making fun of someone else’s culture, which he replied saying that his “etiquette is British etiquette training not worldwide etiquette training.”
Many users jokingly said that they should only talk about etiquette when westerners start having a bidet in the toilet, take off their shoes in their home, shower daily and more before teaching others.
Others however defended his tweet saying people should use cutleries when dining outside to not make other people uncomfortable or offend them and that he is entitled to his own opinion.
Grant Harrold worked as a butler for Prince Charles, William and Harry from 2004 and 2011 and recently lost a legal battle with the Royal Family after trying to trademark the name “The Royal Butler”.
