The Bronx-born rapper, Cardi B has returned with her first single of the year — and she’s not playing nice. “Outside”, released on Friday, June 20, is a fierce, unfiltered anthem born from rage and heartbreak — and it hits hard.

“I made this song a few months ago when I was very, very angry,” Cardi, 32, told fans on Instagram Stories the night before the drop. “I had to change some bars because I was angry, honey.”
That fury? It’s front and center. Produced by Charlie Heat and HeyMicki, “Outside” feels like a venom-laced diary entry set to a summer banger beat — and it’s not subtle. Cardi delivers one of her rawest performances to date.
The timing couldn’t be more pointed. The track arrives in the midst of her ongoing estrangement from Offset, and fans are already dissecting the lyrics for clues. Cardi doesn’t name names — but she doesn’t have to. The venom drips with intent.
Fans first got a taste of the track on June 18 during Cardi’s set at Spotify’s Cannes Lions event. She debuted “Outside” live, alongside high-energy performances of “WAP,” “Bodak Yellow,” “Money,” “I Like It,” and more. Notably, she skipped any verbal mention of Offset.
Variety reports that Cardi admitted she was having “a bad day” on stage, musing aloud: “I don't know if it’s because I’m sleepy or hungry, but there’s always tomorrow.” Vulnerable, real, and very Cardi.
This release also turns the spotlight back onto her long-awaited sophomore album, which has been teasing fans for years. During a live X Spaces chat in March, she promised “really good” — and “surprising” — features, though she made it clear she’s keeping the guest list tight.
“I’m 100 percent confident with this album,” Cardi said. “I just don’t think what I got is out there.”
With “Outside”, she’s proving that. It’s not just a song — it’s a statement. Cardi’s in her scorched-earth era, and she’s not asking for permission.
