Chadwick Boseman is definitely a king in our hearts after his performance as Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). And now he’ll be playing another warrior in an upcoming movie!
Chadwick has been cast to play, Yasuke, the first African samurai in Japanese history who is believed to have served under Japanese warlord, Oda Nobunaga, in the late 1500s!
Yasuke was a Muslim brought to Japan as a slave to Jesuit missionaries from Portuguese Mozambique and became the first black samurai in Japan after he got the attention of Nobunaga and became friends with him.
“The legend of Yasuke is one of history’s best-kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai,” Boseman was quoted as saying. “That’s not just an action movie, that’s a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it.”
The upcoming film adaptation will be co-produced by Erik Feig’s Picturestart, Mike De Luca’s De Luca Productions, Stephen L’Heureux’s Solipsist, Logan Coles’ X●ception Content, and Boseman and will be written by Narcos co-creator, Doug Miro.
