Shi Tingmao, the gold medallist of the women's 3 meter springboard individual event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, praised national diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri, after giving a mesmerising performance in the event final.
The Rio 2016 defending champion explained how the competition this time was not as easy as expected, with most athletes struggling to give their best as the games had been postponed for the past year.
22-year-old Nur Dhabitah finished just 17.6 points behind bronze medallist from the United States, Krysta Palmer with a total score of 326.15 points.
China's Shi Tingmao and Wang Han fulfilled the prediction and won both gold and silver medals respectively with a total score of 383.50 points and 348.75 points respectively.
Speaking about Nur Dhabitah after the competition, Shi Tingmao said: “I think all the participants have given their best here but a good athlete needs a fierce challenge from the opponents."
"It doesn't matter which position you end up in, every position definitely has its value."
Silver medallist Wang Han also added, "I am good friends with the Malaysian diver (Nur Dhabitah) because we can speak the same language.
"I believe she has given her best. It's already a great achievement to qualify for the Olympics and all the participants have worked very hard."
Thank you, Nur Dhabitah Sabri for the amazing performance and we can't wait to see you in the next Olympics!
