Many things took place during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period and one of the most notable is that a Malaysian cooking couple went viral on YouTube… and now Sugu Pavithra has made her official modelling debut!
Photos from Pavithra’s photoshoot for the cover of a Malaysian lifestyle magazine has gone viral on social media after it was uploaded by the makeup artist Razzi Musa!
Many Malaysians are commenting and praising the YouTuber for how amazing she looked in the photoshoot for Pepatung, which explained that they chose the YouTuber for the photoshoot because she’s the symbol of unity for Malaysians.
Pravithra also revealed that the last time she had makeup put on her was eight years ago during her wedding and said that it’s her first time having fake eyelashes on when she was being styled.
Speaking to Pepatung, Pravithra said that she wants to protect her family’s privacy and while many TV shows are inviting the couple to make an appearance, she has rejected them because she values simplicity over glamour.
“We used to be poor and people thought we were going to live a tough life forever. When things get better, some people don't like it. Many criticism surfaced like how we forget our identity and can’t wait to see our downfall.
“We don’t mind if we are no longer popular tomorrow or if YouTube stops paying for our income. We started out hard and our spirits won’t break if life goes back to being hard.”
She said that the negative comments affected her in the beginning and she noted that it was hard to fall asleep at night with the harsh words left by some individuals.
But the challenge made her stronger and she was determined to make even better videos. The couple would upload at least one video almost every day. She would use her regular cooking recipe that she’s familiar with and also recipes shared by her mother-in-law and other YouTubers.
M. Sugu and S. Pavithra now have over 720,000 subscribers on YouTube and many videos of her and sometimes her husband cooking various tasty looking dishes while speaking fluent Bahasa Malaysia have popped up all over social media since they went viral.
It’s certainly inspiring to see their determination and success and how they are getting recognition from more and more Malaysians every day!
