Pet owners understand how difficult it can be to be separated with their pets and one couple lost their dog for years before getting reunited with it!

A couple from Durham reunited with their beloved dog six years after it was stolen from their home.

The couple was seen in a touching video of them seeing their long lost dog named Bonnie for the first time in six years and it’s too heart-warming!

The 50-year-old and 48-year-old married couple Simon and Caroline tried their best to check for their dog on lost dog sites since 2014 up until two years ago before receiving a call from a dog warden after six years.

“We just can't believe it. It was only a couple of years ago that I gave up hope but I was still checking all the lost dog sites,” Caroline said. “It's all a bit surreal.”

“I'd prepared myself for the fact she might look in a bad way but actually she's looking quite well. I know the vets have taken wonderful care of her.”

The dog Bonnie was found 321km (200 miles) away in Norfolk and was believed to have been stolen to breed.

Bonnie was reunited with Simon and Caroline right before her 10th birthday and it might be six years since the couple last saw their beloved dog but that’s around 28 years in dog years!

“Gosh knows what she's been through. It doesn't bear thinking about but at least we can get her back for a few more years and give her a bit of love and care and attention,” Simon said.

“We'll now take her back home and introduce her to our other dog, Jessie, and just have a quiet night in front of the fire,” he added. “I think her birthday will be a quiet one too.”

The dog warden said that she’s never known a dog that was gone this long and believes that “someone has made a lot of money out of her, which is very sad.”

“And she has clearly never been to a vet's over those six-and-a-half years or her chip would have been read.”

It’s nice to know that Bonnie will now spend the rest of her life with her loving owners and hope she’s happy now!
