Many countries around the world are doing their best to curb the spread of COVID-19 since the outbreak but unfortunately the global death toll has officially passed 1 million.
The number of people who have passed away from COVID-19 has officially surpassed 1 million and more and more COVID-19 positive cases continue are being confirmed in Europe, the United States and more.
The top five countries with the highest death tolls are the United States, Brazil, India, Mexico and the UK, with the top four countries taking up almost half of the total deaths worldwide at roughly 205k, 142k, 96k, 76k, and 42k deaths respectively.
“One million is a terrible number, and I think we need to reflect on that before we start considering a second million,” said executive director of the World Health Organization’s health emergencies program, Dr. Mike Ryan.
The US, India and Brazil also placed highest when it comes to confirmed cases worldwide with 7.16 million, 6.15 million and 4.75 million cases, respectively.
While the death count for COVID-19 has significally fallen since May after the world started taking precautions to curb the spread of the virus, the death rate remains extremely high in some countries, with India having an average of 1,100 deaths each day in the last week.
The number of people who have lost their lives to COVID-19 is high, but many people around the world are still downplaying the seriousness of the virus.
It’s important for us to remember that each and every death and number recorded in the global death toll is somebody’s mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, a friend, or simply a loved one… and we must never forget to protect not only ourselves, but also the people around us.
