We usually cry when we're sad but besides making our eyes swell up, crying reportedly contributes to weight loss too.

According to Dr. Aaron Neufeld of the Los Altos Optometric Group, crying emotionally causes your hormones to increase the amount of cortisol caused by bottling up emotions.

Stress-induced tears also removes toxic substances that can build up when you’re emotionally stressed, says biochemist William Frey.

Stressful hormones will be released from crying and cause our bodies to be unable to store more fats, resulting in us “losing weight”.

Of course it’s only effective if you're having an emotional cry and not crying where your tears only keep your eyes moist or from environmental factors like dust and wind.

The best time to cry over sad movies or broken relationships is between 7 to 10 pm, according to the scientists.

So if you’re feeling stressed out or going through a bad time, go ahead and cry your heart out. After all, it won't only help you to lose weight, but also helps you release your feelings that are bottled up!
