Deforestation is a serious issue and excessive deforestation often leads to the wrecking of animal habitats, and recently, it has taken a toll on the elephants in Malaysia.
A tweet recently went viral showing a group of elephants walking in what appears to be a deforested mountain with the caption saying, “due to the greedy and selfish nature… the wild animal’s habitat is now destroyed.”
The image in the tweet says that, “When the forest is destroyed. They (the elephants) searches for forests that aren’t invaded or cut down by loggers or local authorities.”
Malaysia previously held the record of the highest deforestation rate based on a statistic from 2000 to 2012 and caused an estimated loss of more than RM27 million between 2007 to 2015 due to crops damaged by elephants that were wandering after land developments, poaching, improper waste management and deforestation.
Netizens expressed their sadness and urged authorities to take action on the matter that is believed to have happened in Perak.
