Many of us rely of coffee or energy drinks to get us through the day or night sometimes but drinking too much might just cost you your life….
A 41-year-old man named John Reynolds suffered a cardiac arrest and died from drinking one energy drink a day. Reports state that he relied on the energy drinks to get him through his night shifts.
His widow Cassondra revealed that her late mechanic husband had the habit of grabbing an energy drink to keep him alert while working through the night to provide for the family.
The father of three was described to have difficulty breathing one morning and it was later found that he had suffered a cardiac arrest and was transported to a hospital to be put into a medically induced coma on life support.
After Cassondra was asked about his lifestyle, the doctor said that his sugar levels were sky high and it only takes one energy drink to throw off the rhythm of the heart and cause a heart arrhythmia.
Cassondra said that he was healthy and worked out every day and even had a full physical examination a month before the incident.
John was eventually pronounced brain dead in February 2011, and nine years later Cassondra is fighting to impose laws restricting energy drinks consumption in the US following his death.
"I want people to know how dangerous these drinks are and I need people to speak out about losing their loves ones because it happens all the time, you just don't hear about it,” Cassondra said.
"The doctor told me that drinking energy drinks is like playing Russian roulette with your life and that really stuck with me".
"He was a really good dad and the best husband, watching him take his last breath was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I felt like my heart was physically breaking.”
If you happen to be someone that drinks energy drinks on a regular basis, perhaps it's better to drink them in moderation. After all, too much of anything is a bad thing.
