It doesn’t take much to do a good deed a day, and a family from Wisconsin’s random act of kindness will forever leave a big impact on them.

Recently, in Genting Highlands, a couple of firefighters were able to save a doggo who got its head stuck in a plastic container and now, the Wisconsin family were able to do the same, but with a bear.

Yes, you read that right. A bear.

When Tricia Hurt, her husband Brian and their son Brady went out to fish on Marsh-Miller Lake recently, the last thing they expected was to come across a bear that had gotten its head stuck in a plastic container.

Initially, the family thought that the “something floating” in the water was probably a dog but Tricia realised that there was something more to it.

“I said, ‘That ain’t no dog. I think that’s a bear,” Tricia told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “We got closer and I said, ‘Yeah, that’s a bear that got hungry and got its head stuck in a bucket.”

“We knew that if we didn’t do something, we were pretty sure it would not have made it to shore,” Tricia told CNN. “It was really huffing and puffing, my husband said.”

Tricia shared a video of the family’s efforts to help the distressed bear on Facebook and it immediately gained everyone’s attention!

As seen in the video, the family made several attempts to get close to the bear before Brian was finally able to get close enough to tug the plastic container off the bear’s head and set it free.

Once the plastic container was removed, the bear was able to breathe freely once again and according to the family, the bear made its way safely to shore.

“We were so excited!” Tricia noted. “We did our good deed for the day. We will never ever do this again, and it felt good to help the poor bear. You don’t like to see animals struggle.”

When the Hurt family made their way to shore, word of their rescue mission had made its way around and others shared that the bear had been spotted running around with the tub on its head for three to four days.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources had been contacted several times about the distressed bear but they had been unable to locate the black bear.

“We weren’t going to put the video up but we wanted everyone to know that the bear was OK,” Tricia shared.

“We honestly believe if we hadn’t run into that bear, it wouldn’t have made it to shore,” Tricia said. “It was so disoriented, it didn’t know where shore was and it was so tired.”

When Brian removed the plastic container, he noted that the bear could be heard breathing heavily and that the container had been filled with water.

“We just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” she said.

We’re super impressed by the Hurt family’s efforts to save the poor struggling bear! They definitely were lucky to be at the right place at the right time!

Thank you for saving this bear! We’re sure the bear is spending its time happily swimming freely now!
