Back in November, we talked about how the fans of SpongeBob SquarePants were petitioning to have the series’ “Sweet Victory” performed at the Super Bowl in honour of creator, Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away last year.
And the fans got what they wanted! Well… sort of.

The Super Bowl took place over the weekend and fans were anticipating seeing SpongeBob make an appearance on the biggest night of American football. As Maroon 5 took the stage, fans were even more excited to see how their favourite character would play a role in the half time performance.
Fortunately, our favourite yellow sponge did show up at the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, it was only for about 5 seconds…
As the opening of “Sweet Victory” started to play, fans were excited to finally see their dream come true! The months of petitioning paid off!
But sadly, fans were robbed of their dream. The 5 seconds of “Sweet Victory” were in fact, an opening scene for Travis Scott.
Fans were obviously not happy about the outcome.
SpongeBob fans made their feelings clear that they would have much rather had SpongeBob be the headlining act at the Super Bowl than Maroon 5.
One fan even started a poll on Twitter asking everyone for their opinion. The user asked fans: “Who did the #Superbowl Halftime better? Retweet for Spongebob, Like for Adam Levine.”
The tweet currently has over 11,000 retweets, and over 1,000 likes.
The people have spoken. More SpongeBob please!
