Florence Pugh is speaking out about the challenges young women face in Hollywood, particularly regarding unrealistic beauty standards.
In a recent interview, she expressed frustration with the pressure to conform, saying, "Women are labeled demanding or problematic if they don’t fit within certain lines." Reflecting on her roles in films like The Wonder and Don’t Worry Darling, she emphasized how women’s decisions are often criticized or controlled.
Since her debut in The Falling, Pugh has become one of Hollywood's most celebrated talents, but fame has come with its share of misogyny. She recalled being criticized for her body after wearing a sheer pink gown at a Valentino show, noting the ease with which men publicly comment on women’s appearances.
Pugh has spoken out against the media’s focus on women’s looks, drawing parallels to actresses like Keira Knightley, who also faced harsh criticism. Pugh sees her role as challenging beauty standards and creating space for women to be themselves without societal pressures. "I want to make space for a version of a person that isn’t all the things they used to have to be," she said.
