Earlier, more than 3,000 attendees — including national leaders, dignitaries, and members of the public — gathered at the Main Prayer Hall of Masjid Negara to perform the funeral prayer (solat jenazah) for the respected statesman, which was held after the Zuhr prayer.

The funeral prayer and final rites were led by the Grand Imam of Masjid Negara, Ehsan Mohd Hosni.

Among the key national figures who participated in the prayer were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; as well as Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Also present were four former Prime Ministers: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The State Funeral Ceremony began earlier in the day, from 10 AM until 1 PM.

A somber atmosphere surrounded Masjid Negara as Malaysians from all walks of life came to pay their final respects to the widely admired leader.

Following the prayer, the casket of the late Tun Abdullah — draped in the national flag Jalur Gemilang — was carried by members of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) from the Main Prayer Hall to Makam Pahlawan for burial.

The nation was in mourning on Monday upon receiving news of the passing of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, who died at the age of 85 at the National Heart Institute (IJN) due to respiratory complications and age-related health issues.

He served as Prime Minister from October 31, 2003, to April 3, 2009, and left behind a significant legacy in national development, including initiatives such as the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), J-QAF religious education program, and the advancement of the halal industry.

Many described his passing as a great loss for the nation.

May the soul of the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi be blessed with divine mercy and placed among the righteous.
