Many people have been panic buying following the COVID-19 outbreak when it’s actually unnecessary to do so because the food supply is not cut off from the public… but while the shelves are empty, the bins are full.
A tweet recently went viral showing pictures of how fresh food have been dumped and overflowing some wheelie bins because of panic buying and hoarding.
Loaves of bread, cooked meat, fresh fruits and more filled the bins and it was so full that I was piled up next to the bins too!
The tweet wrote, “to all the people in this great city of ours in Derby, if you have gone out & panic bought like a lot of you have & stacked up your houses with unnecessary items you don’t normally buy or you have bought in more food than you need, then you need to take a good look at yourself.”
Many netizens were enraged by the amount of food being wasted by the selfless act of panic buying and hoarding.
Many supermarkets have started setting limits on how many units can customers buy per item and a supermarket in Denmark even came up with a plan to stop people from hoarding hand sanitizer by charging extremely high prices purchase of more than one bottle.
Don’t panic buy and hoard when you’re grocery shopping or buying essential items! Buy within your needs because you never know how else might need it more than you do!
