Sometimes we put in a lot of effort to make our friends happy, only to be disappointed by them in the end. This Malaysian girl found that out the hard way.
A student recently shared a story of how she found out that friends are not as important as family after a birthday incident.
The story begins when her friend wanted to celebrate the “perfect 21st birthday” and being a good friend, she decided to spend her allowance money just to buy a fancy birthday gift to make her happy. But she then had to survive the rest of the month by eating instant noodles.
Because the friend lives in her hometown and she’s studying in KL, she had to take a bus and rush back to attend the party. And instead of being welcomed with open arms, the friend scolded her for being late instead.
She was also criticised by the birthday girl for only spending two hours at the party because she had to rush back to take her midterm exam!
But the ungratefulness didn’t stop there! When it came to the girl's birthday, her friend didn’t even wish her happy birthday and only wished her almost a month after that!
The friend’s reason is that she didn’t want to wish her because everyone else had and it wouldn’t make her wish special. (rolls eyes)
The friend wanted to celebrate her birthday after a month, which the girl didn’t feel like it and her friend responded by saying, “your birthday is not over until you celebrated with me.”
The student ended the post saying that she realised how much money she had spent on friends that don’t even care about her and that she had missed so much time with her family just to attend some outings with her friends. She even missed her parents’ birthday celebrations - which they weren’t angry at at all.
“I’ve only just realised who are the more important people in my life.”
Many netizens commented saying that they too have gone through what she has, and others said that birthdays don't have to be fancy, as long as you spend it with the right people.
So the next time you wanna spend your money and time on your friends, try to think if you have done the same for your parents instead.
Do you know an ungrateful friend like this? Let us know!
