Less than 3k salary not enough wor…

If you’re a company that’s offering less than RM3k to fresh grads, then the time has come my friend, to up the salary.

But that’s not all. Based on the results of the 2023 Graduates’ Choice Award (GCA), they’ve got other requirements too.

These are what newly graduated future-employees are looking for:

#1 Flexible working hours and work-life balance

In simpler terms, fresh grads want to be able to work when they want, and rest when they want. There is huge importance (in this generation), on finding a nice equilibrium between work and play.

Based on the GCA 2023’s results, this trend reflects a broader global shift, as more organisations have begun to recognise the benefits of offering flexible work arrangements and fostering a healthy work-life balance.

As a matter of fact, companies which better understand this, are more likely to find and keep top talent/quality employees.

#2 Good pay, DUH!

The saying is “there’s no such thing as a free lunch”.

Gone are the days where a RM2.5k salary made the cut. In today’s day, age, and economy, one can barely survive with that amount, let alone thrive.

Alongside good bonuses, the survey revealed that freshies expect a pay ranging from RM3k-RM3.5k, at the very least.

#3 Career development

Humans have the need to explore their interests, strengths, and passions. It’s simply how each of us is wired.

Fresh grads want this—an avenue for continuous learning, enhancing skills and self-improvement. Ultimately, they want opportunities to advance their career professionally and learn the art of adaptability.

#4 The company of their dreams

Banking, engineering, tech, accounting, and electronics, were spotlighted as the best industries to be in.

Besides that, AIA Berhad, Maybank, Nestlé and Petronas were noted to have won for 5 years straight.

The GCA 2023 also brought to light what employers search for when hiring their employees.

The list included:

  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Mastering of technical as well as soft skills

That’s a wrap but what about GCA 2024?
