Grimes “Begged” Elon Musk to Protect Their Kids’ Privacy

Grimes expressed deep concern for her children’s privacy.

Grimes has made a public plea for privacy regarding the three children she shares with Elon Musk. After an X post—allegedly written by her—sparked backlash over comments about Fortune 500 CEOs, the musician denied authoring the “cringe AF” message. In response to a user who reminded her that she has children, Grimes revealed her ongoing struggle to keep them out of the public eye.

“I unfortunately do not control the internet and cannot wipe this from the internet,” she wrote on March 13. “I have tried begging the public and my kids’ dad to keep them offline, and I've tried legal recourse.”

The 36-year-old, who shares X Æ A-Xii (4), Exa Dark Sideræl (3), and Techno Mechanicus (2) with the SpaceX CEO, expressed deep concern over their exposure. “The state of my children's lives being public is of grave concern to me, and I think about how to solve this every day,” she continued. “It's insane to me that there’s no way to deal with this.”

Grimes and Musk, who ended their relationship in 2022 after four years together, have been in a legal dispute over their children since 2023. She filed a petition seeking to establish parental rights, though details of the case remain private.

"I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives," she added. "But I don’t even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it, to be honest."

Musk, who is a father to at least 13 children, has made more public appearances with his son X in recent months. On March 14, the four-year-old was photographed accompanying former President Donald Trump onto a Marine One helicopter at the White House, where Musk serves as a senior advisor.

In February, X also joined his father at a press conference in the Oval Office and a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Musk’s twins, Azure and Strider (3), whom he shares with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, were also present.

After seeing her son at the White House, Grimes voiced her frustration online. “He should not be in public like this,” she wrote on X in response to a fan praising his behavior. “I did not see this—thank you for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”

This isn’t the first time Grimes has spoken out against media attention on her children. In a February interview with TIME, she made another request for privacy.

“I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere,” she said. “I think fame is something you should consent to.”

She added, “Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask—so I’m just asking.”
