Orangutans, Pythons & Birds Among Dead & Injured From Toxic Haze

Will the air soon threaten the life of humans too?

The haze is getting worse in Malaysia and many other countries, with schools shutting down due to the increasing air pollutant index (API) readings. But while we are hiding indoors from the toxic air, countless animals are dying from it.

The raging forest resulted in the worsening haze and reports of wild animals dying from it are truly heartbreaking.

Many birds were reported to be falling dead from the skies in several videos posted online.

One video caption reads, “birds falling from the sky due to toxic air that we’re breathing? This is due to irresponsible businesses causing harm to humans & animals.”

But suffering from the toxic air is not the only worst thing to happen to the animals. Rare giant phytons measuring up to 10-metres long and 20-centimetres in diameter are being burned alive from the forest fires in the Indonesian forest.

The dead bodies of two adult phytons with their baby phyton can be seen in a video, probably trying to flee their home before meeting their demise. Heartbreaking.

Critically endangered orangutans are also among those affected by the haze, with the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation saying that there are around 37 young orangutans suffering from respiratory infections among the 335 orangutans at the Kalimantan rescue center.

One twitter user also claimed that “cats which are sick” got “run over by cars because they cannot breathe.”

The forest fires have already taken the life of two young siblings, a firefighter and six farmers in Indonesia, including a four-month-old baby that died from acute respiratory infection believed to be caused by the haze.

Innocent lives are being taken away, humans and animals alike… forced out of their homes, fleeing, suffocating and dying. Suffering from the actions of the ones responsible for the ranging forest fires.

Perhaps it’s time humans start protecting not just our own lives, but also the ones that share the same earth as us, instead to taking it away from them.
