The original Lucius Malfoy actor, Jason Isaacs has officially given his blessing to Johnny Flynn, who’s stepping into the icy shoes of the Slytherin patriarch in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot series. Isaacs, who first introduced us to Draco’s dramatic, cane-wielding dad in 2002’s Chamber of Secrets, showed nothing but love for the casting on social media.

“A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too,” Isaacs gushed about Flynn in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…”
(ICYMI: Flynn is also a folk-rock artist with serious musical chops — so, who knows, maybe a Lucius Malfoy ballad isn’t totally off the table?)
Isaacs, 62, even cheekily added the hashtag #KillTheElfEarly — a dark little nod to Lucius’ chaotic house-elf history. Classic.
Flynn, 42, joins a growing cast for the long-anticipated HBO reboot. He’ll be joined by Lox Pratt as his on-screen son Draco, with Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton taking on the iconic trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Oh — and in case you missed it — John Lithgow is your new Dumbledore. Let that sink in.

Back in April, Isaacs talked about his inevitable Malfoy handoff on Awards Chatter, joking that he’s soaking up his final moments as the Lucius.
“I'll milk this,” he said. “This time next year, there's gonna be another Lucius Malfoy, and he's gonna be fantastic, and I'll be long forgotten. So, I am savoring every other applause I get.”
Nah, Jason — no one’s forgetting that wand snap in Deathly Hallows anytime soon.
There’s still no official release date for HBO’s reboot, but the series is expected to span seven seasons — one for each book — beginning with Sorcerer’s Stone and ending with Deathly Hallows.
Until then, we’ll be over here mentally preparing for more wand duels, new robes, and hopefully... fewer house-elf incidents.
