1. First invented almost 90 years ago?!

You’d think that chicken nuggets was somehow whipped up by a cook, but no. They were created chicken nuggets were first created in the 1950s by one Robert C. Baker. He was a Food and Science professor at Cornell University, and together with his associates, they called chicken nuggets, ‘Chicken Crispie’.

2. The largest chicken nugget weighed 23.18kgs

The largest chicken nugget to ever be made was in Pennsylvania in 2013. It was constructed by the largest producer of Kosher poultry in the US, Empire Kosher, to commemorate 75 years of chicken nuggets.

3. The process of making chicken nuggets is NOT easy

Different cooks and sellers have their own way of making nuggets, but the generic one involves blending chicken meat with seasonings and chicken skin. This ground meat is then shaped using a machine, and covered with a layer of breading and batter. After this, they are semi-fried and flash frozen before being sent out to restaurants, grocers, etc. for sale

4. The world record for chicken nuggets eaten is 19 nuggets in 60s!

Making the Guinness World Record in 2022, Leah Shutkever ate about 19 nuggets (352g) in one minute. The title was previously held by model and competitive eater, Nela Zisser.

5. ‘Nugget’ is referenced from gold

A theory suggests that the term ‘nugget’ came from the idea of a small, valuable piece of gold. This may be because they are similarly small pieces (of chicken) which hold such value to customers.
