One of the few things on the computer and phone that you use on a daily basis is definitely the copy and paste command and unfortunately, the guy that invented the function has just passed away at the age of 74.
Larry Tesler, the computer scientist behind cut, copy and paste was reported to have passed away on Wednesday (February 19) with the company praising him for his “revolutionary ideas”.
He also invented the find & replace function among other things and has always focused on human-computer interaction aka user interface design and putting his skills to work at major companies like Amazon, Apple, Yahoo, and more.
Larry studied computer science at Stanford University in California and his career kicked off working at Xerox, which got the attention of Steve Jobs that hired him in 1980.
He became chief scientist at Apple in 1993 after spending 17 with the company and it was in this period of time that he invented the cut, copy, and paste command.
The command was first integrated on the Apple’s Lisa computer in 1983 and have since revolutionise into a day-to-day function that we all use.
It’s definitely hard to imagine a life without the function that we’re so used to and many netizens are paying tribute by using the exact thing he created.
Rest in peace, to someone that made our lives so much easier and the legend who created what we can’t live without on a daily basis now.
Thank you, Larry Tesler.
