Liam Payne’s former partner Cheryl has been appointed to manage his estate following his untimely death, as the One Direction alum passed away without leaving a will.

According to court documents obtained by People, Cheryl—mother to Liam’s 8-year-old son Bear—has been named as one of the administrators of his $32.2 million estate, alongside music industry lawyer Richard Mark Bray. The pair has been granted limited authority to oversee the estate's affairs in the U.K. until a full grant of probate is issued. For now, they cannot distribute any funds from the estate.

Payne tragically died in October at the age of 31 after falling from a third-story balcony at a hotel in Argentina. An autopsy revealed that his cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries with both internal and external bleeding. A toxicology report found drugs in his system, prompting authorities to open an investigation into the circumstances of his death.

At the time of his passing, Payne was in a relationship with influencer Kate Cassidy, who had left Argentina just days before the incident. “We were in such a great place,” Cassidy told The Sun earlier this year. “He was so happy and positive. I still can’t believe how it ended.”

Cheryl, 41—who dated Payne from 2016 to 2018—publicly addressed his death shortly after, expressing heartbreak and urging for sensitivity from the media and fans.

"As I try to navigate this earth-shattering event and work through my own grief,” she wrote on Instagram, “I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being.”

She condemned “abhorrent reports and media exploitation,” asking the public to think before posting or commenting: “Ask yourself if you would like your own child or family to read them.”
