Lizzo is opening up about her ongoing journey with mental health and the steps she's taken to better manage her anxiety.

lizzo says this one stranger helped pull her out of depression

During an April 22 TikTok Live, the 36-year-old singer shared that she's been actively working to get her anxiety under control, saying, "I’ve been working on this for years. I’m ready to stop waiting to be myself—fully—and be happy."

She explained that, unlike during her past struggles with depression, she’s now practicing intentional solitude. “I isolated a little bit, but in a mindful way. No distractions. I used to distract myself with people, food, drinking, even problems I’d create. I stopped doing that.”

Instead, Lizzo focused on her well-being, which included adjusting her diet and cutting out coffee to help regulate her nervous system. She explained her approach as being rooted in understanding her body’s needs: “Everyone’s body is different—find what works for you.”

She also acknowledged the emotional progress she’s made. At a March 12 concert, Lizzo reflected on how far she’s come since a difficult period of depression. “About a year and a half ago, I didn’t want to be seen—I was so afraid of people,” she said. “But I went to a concert, kind of like this, and a stranger hugged me and said, ‘Lizzo, I love you.’ That moment changed everything.”

Now, Lizzo is committed to healing, self-love, and inspiring others to prioritize their mental health too.
