Humans really don’t deserve dogs, and one loyal doggo has shown us why they’re called men’s best friend after it patiently waited on a bridge for its owner who had passed away four days earlier.

A doggo in Wuhan, China was found waiting for its owner on the Yangtze Bridge for four days, and would not eat, drink or budge from the spot.

Unfortunately for the poor dog, its owner had jumped off the bridge into the waters below and was not coming back.

Mourning the loss of its owner, the doggo was found by a passerby named Xu who noticed that the pup remained at the same spot over several days and nights, Chutian Metropolis Newspaper reported.

Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association (SAPA) noted that Xu had tried to help the dog by attempting to feed it but the doggo refused food and water from the stranger.

Images of the doggo staring longingly at the river through a section of the bridge railings went viral on Chinese social media and local police were able to confirmed that a “yet unidentified member of the public had been seen leaping on the night of May 30.”

The loyal dog had been waiting for its owner for almost a week and local reports noted that the pup was first discovered by staff who were doing repairs on the bridge the following day of the unfortunate incident.

“We tried removing the dog, but no matter what, it would always come back to the same spot and stare at the Yangtze river,” a bridge repairman said.

Xu tried to help the animal by placing the dog in his car and taking it back home but unfortunately, the dog leapt out of the car and sprinted away into the nearby bushes connected to a nature park, The Shanghaiist reported.

SAPA then sent volunteers to look for the little dog at the bridge and at the park but unfortunately, they were unable to find it. The association are urging the public to keep an eye out for the devoted dog.

“We spent the morning looking for the dog but we couldn’t find it,” said SAPA director Du Fan. “If any local residents find it, please contact us. We would like to find it a new home. It would be a pity for such a loyal dog to live on the streets as a stray.”

The association released a statement on the matter saying:

“None of us knows what the dog’s owner had experienced leading up to their decision to jump off the bridge. The dog watched as its owner disappeared into the water below. It cannot speak, and cannot tell us what happened. It could only stand guard in the same spot waiting for its owner to return.”

We really don’t deserve dogs.

We hope that the loyal doggo is found and that it’ll be able to find happiness with a new forever home.
