Malaysia is not short of amazing talents and another Malaysian is making us proud as she’s been chosen as a Malaysian representative for a space programme backed by the United Nations!

25-year-old Brelveenraj Kaur Rajwant Singh was recently chosen along with 12 other people around the world as the National Point of Contact (NPoC) to the Space Generation Advisory Council!

Kuantan-born Brel is now the NPoC representative for Malaysia after she was appointed to the council in support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications.

The Malaysian teen has always been fascinated by space, and stumbled upon the programme when she attended the Young Professionals in Space Conference in Dubai back in 2019 before she volunteered for the programme!

Her appointment as the NPoC will see her contributing to national space activities like events, newsletters, scholarships, policies, and participate in discussions with other NPoC in Asia Pacific while working with space agencies in Malaysia.

“I wanted to take the challenge of a new responsibility – as long as I can inspire more people to join space-based events for the betterment of Malaysia’s space exploration in the future,” Brel said to The Rakyat Post.

Space Generation Advisory Council is based in Vienna with over 15,000 members that represent over 150 countries worldwide and is a non-governmental and non-profit organization.

The Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate is now working with MEASAT as a satellite controller and is also a masters in Aerospace Engineering (GNSS in Aviation) student!

Brel revealed that she decided she wanted to be in the industry during her Final Year Project in university when she “was processing real-time GPS signals and it got me thinking; “How did those satellites get into space? How do they stay up there for?”

“The movie Hidden Figures also inspired me and that’s when I decided I want to work in the satellite/space industry,” she added.

“I believe that in order to achieve your dreams, one must believe in themselves. My friends say I am lucky to be in the space sector, but I like to think that I am hardworking, and I don’t give up easily.”

Brel is definitely an inspiration and we can’t wait to see more achievements from her in the future!

Congratulations, Brel!
