If you’re a pet owner you might understand how hard it is to leave your pets behind, and two Malaysian siblings proved their love for their cats after they stayed in a flood to protect them.
Two siblings from Kuala Terengganu decided to stay behind to protect their 32 pet cats from the flash flood that struck their home at night.
45-year-old Azila Omar and 38-year-old Azmi said that they could not bear leaving their pet cats at home because they worried for their safety after the water level went as deep as 0.5 meters.
“We could’ve stayed at our sister’s house while waiting for the water level to recede, but we don’t have the heart to leave the cats here despite having to stay in the water,” Azila said.
They also revealed that they were worried that the cats would fall into the water because some of them are blind, deaf and disabled.
Azila said that the incident happened at 10pm at night when he was alone at home and Azmi was out at the supermarket nearby,
“The water level rose up very quickly and I didn’t have time to move the things to a safe place," he said.
Azmi said that the last time a flash flood hit the village was in 2000 and almost 95 percent of their belongings couldn’t be saved due to the fast rising water levels.
“The flood might have occurred due to the high tide and heavy rain. The incident caused me a loss of over RM10,000.
Many people are praising the siblings for their love for their cats and are touched that they were willing to stay in the flood water just to protect their cats!
It’s unfortunate that the siblings were struck by such a terrible disaster but their cats are definitely lucky to have them as owners!
What would you have done in this situation? Let us know!
