Many Malaysians are still travelling to work with their work letter but one Malaysian misused his work letter to celebrate Raya.
A Malaysian reportedly misused his work letter and traveled cross-state to celebrate Hari Raya with his family, but ended up infecting them with COVID-19.
The Kedah State Health Department (JKN Kedah) shared the “syawal tragedy” on Facebook saying the man’s action not only affected his parents, but also his nieces and nephews who belong in the high risk category.
The post also revealed that the family did not adhere to the SOPs and new norm pratices during the Raya celebration.
The infected family members are now undergoing treatment at the hospital due to the man’s actions.
“Can you imagine what would happen if the government allowed visitation during Raya? Would there be even more cases now?” the post wrote. “Our actions determine that.”
The post also urged the public to always adhere to the SOPs and be responsible citizens of the country, saying “the sacrifice we make today is for the future, a future without COVID-19.”
Many Malaysians were disappointed with the man’s actions, with others sharing how many individuals are still stubborn and refuse to follow the SOPs.
“To the people that continues to obey the SOP, you are a very responsible citizen, you are also a responsible child to the family,” the post wrote.
Thank you to our frontliners’ undying efforts to curb the rise of COVID-19 in the country and to the responsible citizens that are trying to do the same by by following the SOP!
Stay home if you can, stay safe and together we can work towards a COVID-19 free Malaysia!
