The government has imposed the movement control order (MCO) today (March 18) to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but many Malaysians still don’t understand the severity of the situation.
According to The Star, many people were still seen gathering at an eatery in Penang while they took-away their food.
The customers were spotted chilling at food courts while waiting for their order and chatting about the movement control order.
Despite ordering take-away, some of them are still seen eating on the tables eating from the take-away bags and their drinks in their cups.
"My business is not open today. I'm just here to look at the situation," said one person who declined to be named.
Dozens of customers decided to queue for their food as the eateries stopped serving food on the tables.
The stalls in central market food court in Sibu, Sarawak were also reported to be selling food and drinks to customers when they are only supposed to be doing take-aways.
"We will issue a notice to inform them that they are only allowed to do take-away business until the end of this month," said the Chairman of Market and Petty Traders of Sibu Municipal Council, councillor Albert Tiang. "We will either suspend their licence or revoke it.”
The movement control order was meant to restrict any form of gathering and to ensure the public stays at a safe distance from each other so that the virus will not continue to spread.
Please try to stay at home if you can and maintain social distancing and keep your hands clean at all times! Together we can #FlattenTheCurve.
