Starting in 2020, all Malaysians travelling to European Union countries will have to undergo a new immigration process.
The process is called the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), and is mandatory for citizens from visa-free countries.
Once issued, the ETIAS holder will be able to stay in the Schengen Area (all EU states except Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and the UK) for a maximum of 90 consecutive days.
The application process for ETIAS is super simple. You can apply for it online, and the whole process takes about 10 minutes, costing only RM48.30 (10 Euros) and is valid for 3 years.
To apply for ETIAS, you’ll need a valid passport, and a valid credit card to pay the processing fee.
According to the ETIAS website, ETIAS will help speed up, facilitate, reinforce and modernise the border control procedures of European countries by offering better protection against document and identity fraud.
