Most of us are used to having our money saved in a bank but one man decided to keep his money at home and suffered a devastating loss after his house caught on fire.
A 38-year-old Malaysian man lost a total of RM52,000 in cash that he had kept in his kitchen after his rented house was caught in the fire.
The man named Khatib Yusof said that he was at a nearby restaurant when he received a call from his neighbour who told him that his house was on fire.
The neighbour said that she heard the sound of glass brake and then saw smoke coming out of the kitchen.
He rushed home after getting the call but failed to save his belongings, including the money for his business.
“Of the RM52,000, RM40,000 was the money I started saving since eight years ago and RM12,000 was my money for my business.”
"Who wouldn’t be sad that the money collected over the years has been burned to nothing in a blink of an eye. Incidentally, I have some plans to use the savings in the future," he said, claiming that the loss excluding the money was about RM200,000 in total.
His home, savings, van, car and motorcycle were all engulfed in the fire that took place in Sungai Besar.
The house was already 90 percent destroyed by the fire by the time the fire department arrived at the scene and managed to get the fire under control after 20 minutes.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the fire and the source of the fire and the total amount of loss are still under investigation.
