Marcos Rodrigues Pantoja had been living with wolves for 12 years before the authorities rescued him in 1965. As a young boy, his mother had passed away, so his father had sold him to a farmer who lived in the Serra Morena mountains of Spain. The farmer died not too long after that, leaving Marcos to fend for himself, and to ultimately find a family amongst wolves.
He was 19 when the Spanish Civil Guard discovered him, and ultimately brought him back to the human world. But that’s where everything truly changed.
Marcos is now 72 years old and lives in the small village of Rante, in the Galician province of Ourense. However, despite living among humans for the past few decades, he confesses that his last happy memories were with the wolves.

Marcos explains that he had been cheated and exploited by humans in the working sphere. People also laugh at him because he doesn’t know much about politics, football, or the modern world for that matter.
But he says although he had to get used to eating with cutlery and sleeping in a bed, one of the most disturbing things to him was the hustle and bustle of community life. He said, "I could not cope with so much noise, the cars, and people going back and forwards like ants. But at least ants all go in the same direction. People went everywhere. I was scared of crossing the road.”

And while he has attempted to return to the mountains, it’s not what it used to be as the wolves don’t recognise him, because he “smells like people”, thanks to the cologne he wears.
He now lives in a small house, with low ceilings, a patio full of plants and flowers to help him feel as if he still lives in a cave out in the wild.

Well. This is certainly the first time we’re hearing this.
