People around the globe are staying in to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and while some are defying the orders to stay in or complaining that they can’t workout at home, this man proved that nothing is impossible!
Malaysian man, Yim Heng Fatt, decided to prove that being indoors is no excuse to stop exercising by running a full 263km marathon in his own home!
He posted photos and videos of how he spent 36 hours running a 50 meter route in his house, from his living room, to his foyer, kitchen, and dining area.
“Well, here it is. It's never a straight line so I had to make many many turns so often. It's an obstacle for sure but runners never complain about how a route looks like right?” he wrote.
“Remember, I did 263km or 5,260 loops in 36 hours here and didn't complain once!”
He took breaks in between to eat, shower and rest and decided to stop after 263km because the number pronounced in Cantonese sounds like a lucky phrase meaning “to live eternally”.
According to Yim, each loop of 50m would take him on average about 22 seconds and he tried to run nonstop in blocks of 10km roughly 200 loops, sometimes he would just run up and down the stairs to get some variety in his motions.
The Malaysian man wants to prove that there’s no stopping runners in maintaining an active lifestyle even though they are forced to be at home during the Movement Control Order.
“The good thing about running indoors is the ability to control the weather. Out comes the fans and even the aircond where it does get hot and muggy during late afternoon,” he explained the benefits of running indoors. “Plus, you can virtually run naked.”
He also said that he can watch and listen to whatever he wants in his living room and it looks like his cats were his spectator for his entire journey!
Many netizens are praising him for his efforts and he was also running to raise money for an organisation that will donate face masks for every 10km ran.
It’s certainly encouraging to see his efforts and achievement that is inspiring more people to start exercising at home too!
