Creating your own good luck can be a tricky thing.
Some believe in lucky charms like a four-leaf clover, others believe in fortune telling, and there are some who believe that throwing coins into plane’s engine before a flight would bring good luck…
Sigh.

Recently, a passenger in Weifang, in the central Shandong province in China, got an entire flight cancelled after he tossed some coins into the plane’s engine to ensure that he had a safe flight.
Only identified with his last name Wang, the man was reportedly preparing to travel from Weifang to Haikou, in the Chinese province of Hainan, when he decided to throw in the handful of coins.
The airline released a statement about the incident and shared that their staff had become aware that there were unwelcomed objects in the engine when they found coins on the ground during the pre-takeoff inspection.

Wang had apparently wanted to take matters into his own hands to ensure a safe flight, and when questioned by the crew, he admitted that he had thrown six coins wrapped in red paper towards the plane to “pray for blessings”.
Though the staff were able to recover all six coins, the airline decided to cancel the flight for safety reasons.
Thanks to Wang’s irresponsible actions, 148 passengers were forced to wait until the next day for a new flight.
Though Wang may have had good intentions in mind, he reportedly ended up being detained by the police for throwing his lucky coins into the engine.

Hopefully Wang has learnt his lesson and will never throw coins into a plane again. We hope others will learn from his mistake too.
Maybe… Wang could instead throw his coins into a wishing well or a fountain if he needs good luck next time…
