Man Wants To Send A Flat Earther To Space To Prove Earth Is Round

He’s currently raising funds for it!

We’ve come so far with technology both on earth and in space, that it’s still surprising to find some people who believe that the earth is… flat.

Much to the annoyance of many, “flat earthers” have long been trying to prove our planet is flat-shaped.

One man however has been so annoyed by flat earthers that he’s raising money to send one to space, just to prove to them that the earth is actually spherical in shape.

Marc Gauld from Aberdeen, Scotland has had enough of flat earthers.

According to the 37-year-old, his friend has been continuously annoying him with “nonsense” claims that the earth is flat.

Marc has been so annoyed that he has launched a campaign to try and send a prominent flat earther advocate into orbit to prove the conspiracy theory wrong, once and for all.

This of course sounds like a joke but Marc is dead serious about his plan.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he shared his reasoning for doing so saying:

“I have a couple of friends that are flat earthers and it drives me crazy their total nonsense that they speak.

They call astronauts actors who are paid to lie and that boils my blood because these are guys who barely hold down jobs and do nothing so to talk about astronauts like that, I don’t know where they get off.

I decided to give them the chance to put their money where their mouth is for once, and the only way I could do it is by sending a high ranking flat earther into space.”

With private companies such as SpaceX and Virgin Galactic already taking bookings for flights into space, Marc’s mission may actually become a reality if he manages to raise enough funds.

The massive space and sci-fi enthusiast who found his friend’s claims “disrespectful” to the scientific community, looked up the price and found that he would need to raise £250,000 (RM1.3million) for a seat on Virgin Galactic’s private commercial space flight – for the flat earther.

This of course is an extreme measures to prove a point but Marc believes that the conspiracy theorist would be jumping at this unique opportunity.

“If flat earthers truly want to prove flat earth then I would expect most donations to come from the flat earther community,” he said.

Marc’s GoFundMe campaign has currently raised £160 (RM895), so he has a long way to go before sending a flat earther into orbit.

Marc’s fundraising campaign page explains more about his mission and includes his selection process to choose the lucky flat earther that will be sent into space.

“Once the funds are raised I will hold an application process for high ranking flat earthers to enter if they wish to be the first flat earther in space!” he said. “One lucky flat earther will be chosen for disappointing the rest of the flat earthers.”

“Please get onboard with this as it is in the name of science and it will finally disprove or prove the flat earth theory and we can finally put this to rest!” he added.

“I am 100% serious about this and your donations will be highly appreciated and will be helping to stop a completely unsupported scientific view getting in the way of real progress,” Marc shared. “Thanks to all who donate, I will make this happen.”

Well, this is definitely a drastic measure but we’re anxious to see what happens if Marc succeeds in his mission.

Have you ever met a flat earther? What did you say to convince them that the earth is actually round? Let us know!
