Matt Lucas is clearing the air after Millie Bobby Brown called him out for his remark about her appearance.

The comedian issued a heartfelt apology after Brown criticized his comment referring to her as having a "mommy makeover." In a statement shared on Instagram on March 4, Lucas explained his intent and expressed regret for any upset he caused.

"Dear Millie," Lucas wrote, "I just saw your post and wanted to respond and provide some context."

He went on to clarify that his "mommy makeover" comment was a reference to a teenage character he played on Little Britain, the sketch comedy show he co-wrote and starred in from 2003 to 2006.

"Nearly 25 years ago, I played a character named Vicky Pollard, who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top," Lucas explained. "When I saw your photo, where you also had blonde hair and were wearing a pink top, I made a lighthearted comparison by posting one of her catchphrases."

Assuring that his intent was never to criticize Brown’s appearance, Lucas added, "I thought you looked terrific. I was mortified when I saw the press claiming I had 'slammed' you, because that’s not my style, and I think you’re brilliant."

Acknowledging the impact of his words, he concluded, "I would not have posted it if I thought it would upset you. I realize it has, and for that, I apologize."

Lucas was one of several figures Brown called out in a powerful statement denouncing media scrutiny and online bullying.

In a video shared to Instagram on March 3, the Stranger Things star, now 21, addressed the ongoing commentary about her appearance.

"This isn’t journalism. This is bullying," she stated. "The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices—it’s disturbing."

Brown, who rose to fame at just 11 years old, highlighted how critics struggle with her transition into adulthood.

"For some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me," she said. "They act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did in Stranger Things season one. And because I don’t, I’m now a target."

Despite the scrutiny, the Enola Holmes actress made it clear that she refuses to conform to unrealistic expectations.

"I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself," she affirmed. "I refuse to make myself smaller just to fit into people’s outdated ideas of who I should be."

Brown’s message struck a chord with many, reigniting discussions about how young women in Hollywood are treated as they grow up in the public eye.
