Yesterday, joy ran across the states of Selangor, KL, Penang and Johor when it was announced that the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be lifted from 5th March and replaced with the Recovery MCO until 18th March.

But before you get too excited and start making plans to travel out of the state, you should know that inter-state travel is still banned.

According to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the inter-state ban will remain while inter-district travel will be allowed from 5th to 18th March, except for Sabah.

Sabah will maintain its inter-district ban over the two-week period.

“We understand Sabah is very big, one district in the state is larger than most states in the Peninsula,” he said. “As such the Sabah government asked the matter (cross district) to be postponed in the state.”

For those of you in Selangor and KL, you may travel between the two but if you wish to enter Putrajaya for non-work reasons, you’ll have to apply for permission with the police.

The Senior Minister clarified the matter by explaining that Selangor, KL and Putrajaya are considered as a unified zone, but as Putrajaya is under RMCO, travel to the federal territory is restricted.

“As implemented during the first MCO, Selangor, KL and Putrajaya are considered a single zone,” he said. “As such, travel between Selangor and KL is allowed.”

“However, travel into Putrajaya is restricted as it is under the RMCO, this is to protect Putrajaya,” he added. “From KL and Selangor, police permission is need to enter Putrajay except for workers with employers’ letters.”

So if you’re thinking about travelling, do take note on where you can and cannot go! Do remember that the new ruling will only be in effect from 5th to 18th March.
