Miley Cyrus is revisiting the heartbreak of losing her Malibu home six years ago as Los Angeles faces devastating wildfires. The 32-year-old singer shared a poignant Instagram post featuring a photo of her former home reduced to rubble after the 2018 Woolsey Fire. Four letter-shaped cushions spelling "LOVE" were visible amid the debris.
"This image hits me hard in the heart today," Cyrus wrote. "This is a photo taken of my front porch in 2018 after losing our house in the Woolsey fires. It’s a feeling you don’t ever forget." She described the emotional toll: "Walking up to the door you would pass through daily, looking forward to being greeted by the ones you love like you always do, but instead being met by a pile of ash and rubble."
Cyrus continued by expressing her solidarity with those currently affected by the ongoing fires in Los Angeles. "My soul aches for those who are experiencing this devastation firsthand, and I cry for my city. It’s beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents ‘living the dream,’ but the reality today is wreckage and destruction."
To support recovery efforts, she shared links to organizations assisting those impacted, including the Malibu Foundation, which she co-founded after the Woolsey Fire. "Time, resources, and dedication from inside and outside of our community will heal us, but it hurts deeply for now," she wrote, signing off with "Love always."
The heartfelt post appeared on both The Miley Cyrus Foundation's Instagram feed and her personal Instagram Stories.
Cyrus lost her Malibu home in 2018, which she shared with then-fiancé Liam Hemsworth. She was in South Africa filming Black Mirror at the time, while Hemsworth rescued their pets from the blaze. At the time, she shared her devastation on social media, writing, "I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely, and that’s all that matters. My house no longer stands, but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong."
In a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair, Cyrus reflected on the fire and the emotional impact of losing the home Hemsworth had purchased. Interestingly, the house had once belonged to producer Matthew Wilder, and Cyrus recorded her first solo album there during her Hannah Montana days. In 2023, Cyrus revisited her connection to the house in a TikTok series celebrating her song "Used to Be Young." She recalled her early days recording music there, saying, "That house had so much magic to it. It ended up really changing my life."
The ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, which began on January 7, have displaced over 80,000 people, including several celebrities. According to the L.A. County Medical Examiner, the fires have claimed at least 16 lives. Cyrus ended her post by urging support for those affected, highlighting the importance of community in overcoming such devastation.
