Millie Bobby Brown is setting the record straight on her ever-changing accent.
The Stranger Things star recently addressed online backlash about her speech shifting between American and British tones, calling the discussion unnecessary.

"I actually call it 'accent gate' because it was everywhere for a second," Millie said on the SmartLess podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett on March 10. "People had a real problem with it, and I was like, 'Guys, I'm married to an American.'"
Millie, who tied the knot with Jake Bongiovi—son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi—last May, explained that switching between accents comes naturally depending on her surroundings.
"When I'm around his family, I immediately go into an American accent," she shared. "But then when I’m back in England and hear my parents, I switch right back."

The 21-year-old actress also noted that her ability to pick up accents is part of her craft.
"You want me to play these characters, but you expect me not to morph into people?" she said. "What I hear is what I do. It's all part of it."
Millie has addressed similar criticism before, explaining in a March 2024 TikTok video that growing up in Hollywood has influenced the way she speaks.
"I'm an actor," she said at the time. "I grew up in the public eye. I grew up in America. I come to set and I adapt. I want to mimic people."
Beyond the accent discourse, Millie has also spoken out about public scrutiny regarding her appearance, calling out online criticism in a powerful March 4 Instagram video.
"I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me," she said. "Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did in Stranger Things season one. And because I don’t, I’m now a target."
Millie also took issue with articles critiquing her appearance, calling them a form of bullying.
"The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices—it’s disturbing," she stated. "The fact that some of these articles are written by women? Even worse."
Despite the criticism, Millie remains focused on her career and personal life, proving that she won’t let the negativity hold her back.
