Many kids are stuck at home during quarantine, with a mother recently surprising her son with his first fast food meal since lockdown. Now another mother has come up with an idea of how to keep her kids off junk food!

A mother named Sarah Baldson from Northumberland, UK, went viral after she posted about how she bought a vending machine for her kids in order to get them to cut down on junk food and help in the house!’

She explained that her kids, Shannon, 9, Lucy, 8, Jack, 5 and Elijah, 2, have been eating junk food and refuse to help around the house.

“During lockdown, the kids have been wanting sweet stuff all the time and they have been refusing to help around the house,” Sarah said.

That’s when she decided to buy a second hand vending machine for RM436 ($100) and make her children pay for the snacks they want… with money they can earn if they complete their chores or finish their school work!

“The healthy snacks are all free but this way they will have to do jobs and school work to earn money to buy sweets from the vending machine.”

And the method works! Her kids are often helping out with chores like tidying their rooms, unloading the dishwasher, dusting and more!

“At first, they thought it was really mean but now they loved it. They've made me put mine and my husband's stuff in there as well!”

“I was sick of the arguments about unhealthy snacks so hopefully this will encourage them to work for them.”

She also revealed how hard child care is when the kids are off school with her and her husband working the whole time.

What a smart method to encourage kids to put in effort to earn their junk food and it’s definitely cool for the kids to be able to mention having a vending machine at home!

What are your thoughts on the method? We won’t have a choice to say no to doing chores to be honest….
