Always wanted your name to leave a mark on Earth? Well now you can leave your mark on Mars for free!
NASA recently reopened their “Send Your Name To Mars” program where you can enter your country, name and more to be sent to Mars and you can even receive a printable “boarding pass” for it!
Here’s how you can apply yours.
Step 1: Head to the website or search “send your name to mars” on your browser.
Step 2: After entering the website, click “Sign up for the next flight”.
Step 3: Enter your name, country, postal code and email.
Step 4: Click “Send my name to Mars” to submit.
Step 5: After the submission is completed, click download to get your “boarding pass”!
It’s advised to download your “boarding pass” on a desktop rather than from a mobile phone to get a clearer picture.
How to retrieve your boarding pass.
1. Click “Boarding Pass” on the tab at the top left of the page and enter your name, country and postal code.
2. To avoid searching for a duplicate entry, you can also search using the boarding the number on the flyer (the number after M2M).
This isn’t the first time NASA has launched the initiative and has previously carried the names of 10,932,295 abroad the Perseverance rover that were etched onto "fingernail-sized chips" on a placard through an electron beam.
Once you’ve registered, your name will be sent “on a future NASA mission to Mars in the mid-2020s”, but your boarding pass has a specific travel date of July 2026!
