You know that feeling when you wake up in the morning and have to pull yourself out of bed to go to school or work? Well, what if we told you that there’s a job which literally requires you to stay in bed instead of getting out of it?
And if you think that sounds out of the world, it’s probably because it is! The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is looking for volunteers to lie in bed for two whole months and they'll pay you RM75,639 ($18,532) for it!
It’s called the Artificial Gravity Bed Rest Study (AGBRESA) and is part of a study to help scientists better understand how artificial gravity affects the human body and prevent the negative effects of weightlessness in space.
And when we say you have to lay in bed for two months, we mean it! That's literally all you will have to do! The bed will be angled downwards six degrees towards the head to simulate “displacement of bodily fluids experienced by astronaut in a space shuttle.”
All volunteers must be between 24-55 and are willing to spend 60 days in bed at the medical research facility inside the Institute of Aerospace Medicine of the German Aerospace Centre in Cologne. Did we also mention that you must be able to speak German?
You’ll be allowed to watch TV, read books and other activities but also take tests throughout your stay there including cognitive ability tests, muscle strength, balance, and cardiovascular function.
Time to learn some German words and get ready to lay in bed! Do you know someone that is perfect for this job? Tell us!
