Netflix is heading back to the Regency era with a new six-part limited series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and casting is already underway. Production is expected to begin later this year in the U.K., promising fans of Jane Austen another chance to fall in love with Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.

Taking the lead roles are Emma Corrin (The Crown, Nosferatu) as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden (Mary Queen of Scots, Dunkirk) as the brooding Mr. Darcy. Olivia Colman (The Favourite) will also join the cast as the spirited Mrs. Bennet, reuniting with Corrin after their time together on The Crown.
Corrin, who is also executive producing, described playing Elizabeth as “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” saying she looks forward to helping a new generation discover Austen’s timeless story.
The adaptation will be penned by Dolly Alderton, known for her memoir Everything I Know About Love and its successful BBC series adaptation. “Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for the romantic comedy,” Alderton said, promising both a faithful and refreshing take on the classic.
Directed by Euros Lyn, the series follows Netflix’s earlier attempt at Austen with 2022’s Persuasion, and arrives as Bridgerton continues its reign. But this adaptation won’t follow in Bridgerton’s footsteps. Netflix assures viewers that Pride and Prejudice will remain a “faithful, classic” version of Austen’s beloved novel.
With a stellar cast and promising creative team, this latest retelling is shaping up to be a must-watch for Austen fans everywhere.
