How we wish we could just submit a blank exam paper one day and get high marks for it… well that’s exactly what happened to this Japanese ninja student!

Eimi Haga, a Japanese ninja history student got top marks after she handed in a blank sheet of paper after the teacher asked them to be creative on their essay during her visit to the Ninja Meseum of Igaryu!

She decided to make her essay stand out from others by writing the essay with invisible ink! She said, “I gave a thought for a while, and hit upon the idea of aburidashi. It is something I learned through a book when I was little. I just hoped that no-one would come up with the same idea.”

Aburidashi is an ancient technique for ninjas to communicate in the past. The ink, is made with crushed soybeans extract/rice-wine, alum/citrus juice. It becomes invisible when it dries up and can only be seen when it’s heated.

She soaked the soybeans overnight, crushed them and squeezed an extract out of them through a cloth, then mixed the extract with water and spent two hours just to get the concentration right.

Eimi also attached a note saying “heat the paper” so the teacher wouldn’t throw it away. She was expecting a bad score but the teacher was so surprised and gave her high marks for it!

“I had seen such reports written in code, but never seen one done in aburidashi,” professor Yamada said. “To tell the truth, I had a little doubt that the words would come out clearly. But when I actually heated the paper over the gas stove in my house, the words appeared very clearly and I thought ‘Well done!’”

Her essay got full marks and the teacher didn’t even finish reading it! “I thought I should leave some part of the paper unheated, in case the media would somehow find this and take a picture,” he said.

Eimi definitely deserve the top marks for her creativity and effort! But don’t try submitting your exam this way because we’re pretty sure your teacher will fail you for it!
