Malaysia is not only filled with good food but with great talents too! A six-year-old girl from Petaling Jaya just won first place in an international piano competition!
The child prodigy beat 21 other countries and became champion by playing Frederic Chopin’s Waltz in E-Flat Major at the 2019 “Vienna” Grand Prize Virtuoso competition.
Also known as Chopin’s Grande valse brillante in E-flat major, the composition she played was one of Pole’s first solo piano Waltz compositions ever published. The ceremony was held in world famous Wiener Musikverein in Vienna, one of the finest concert halls in the world!
The six-year-old defeated participants and piano prodigies from United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, United States of America, Hong Kong, Italy, Israel, Japan, Romania, Turkey, Russia, Spain, Mexico, Poland, Switzerland, Taiwan and Singapore.
Olivia started playing piano at the age of four and has won many local and international competitions. She will be playing at the Carnegie Hall in New York this year and has previously been invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Philharmonie de Paris in France!
Her grandparents posted a Facebook post saying they are proud that Olivia won the competition and “honoured Malaysia.”
Here's a video we found of her playing the composition in another competition:
Congratulations Olivia, Malaysia is proud of you!
